Agile Project Management Concepts (Malaysia)
Launching in December 2011

Below is a partial list of concepts covered in the ACP Preparation program:

Release:

Release is the delivery of a set of features and or a capability in the form of a deployable package which is the culmination of several iterations. What constitutes each release is planned early in the project lifecycle or prior to the start of an iteration. A release can be made of several iterations with each iteration focused on a set of features.

Sprint:

Sprint is a specified time period during which a set of agreed upon tasks are completed. A Sprint is generally time boxed (E.g. 2 weeks) and starts with a Sprint planning session which addresses the set of features that need to be completed for the Sprint.

Product Backlog:

Product Backlog is a document containing the list of features/stories prepared and maintained by the Product Owner. The Product backlog is updated progressively with priorities for the features.

Sprint Backlog:

Sprint Backlog is a document containing the list of tasks for turning the items in the product backlog into an increment of potentially shippable product functionality. The Sprint backlog is updated by the team members.

Daily Stand-Up:

Daily Stand-up meetings are conducted on a daily basis where each team member provides answers to the following three questions:
What did you do yesterday?
What will you do today?
Are there any impediments in your way?

Information Radiator:

An Information radiator is a display posted in a place where people can see it as they work or walk by. It shows readers information they care about without having to ask anyone a question. This means more communication with fewer interruptions.

Osmotic Communications:

Osmotic communication means that information flows into the background hearing of members of the team, so that they pick up relevant information as though by osmosis. This is normally accomplished by seating them in the same room. Then, when one person asks a question, others in the room can either tune in or tune out, contributing to the discussion or continuing with their work.

Collocation:

Collocation refers to being in the same physical location. This generally applies to team working on a project.

Retrospective:

Retrospective is a meeting where the team discusses three things: what went well, what didn't go well, and what improvements could be made in the next sprint.

Timeboxing:

Timeboxing is a concept where a schedule is broken into specific time periods with each time period assigned a set of features for development. With timeboxing, the deadline is fixed, but the scope may be reduced. This focuses work on the most important deliverables

Burndown Charts:

Burndown chart is a visual representation of the amount of work left to complete in the current sprint. As the team "burns" through work, the line gets closer and closer to zero.

Wide band Delphi:

Delphi estimation method asks a small team of experts to anonymously generate individual estimates from a problem description and reach consensus on a final set of estimates through iteration
